Gameswipe

I found this series about video games called Gameswipe, which airs on BBC. In one episode, they mention story-telling in video games. Just like the articles that were discussed in class, Graham Lineham (the guest in this episode) has the same opinion: games are lacking in story-telling. He states how games are becoming better in every aspect except in story-telling. In other words, their graphics, sounds, controls, etc. are becoming more advanced as more technology and knowledge is available, but games are still not good at telling stories. Lineham mentions how some games used to have a written narrative at the beginning that would give the background, but how the player would be uninterested in this part and just want to skip it and start playing. But now, taken from films, games with an introduction use video clips to show the background story, but people still have the same reaction. I agree with this, since I do the same thing – I just want to be able to play, and telling me a story is just wasting the time that I could spend playing.

Note: The series also features other episodes that explain and give examples of each genre of games, which I found really helpful, but as a warning, there is a lot of language use.
