Rewriting “Blindsight” -Sarasti

The words come out in a rapid motion of surprise, but remaining calm, hands slowly flexed. Something in the excitement brings about the feral instinct that has been restrained for too long. Part of me asks for release, but the dominating side takes control and keeps a sense of sanity as I remind myself that it’s just “meat” that are getting excited and being brought to the same pace would be uncomfortable.

“Check your feeds! Check your feeds! The pens!”  Susan James seemed urgent in her response and this bemuses me. I watch the spectacle and while watching, like a silhouette listen to what may be so important to James that she would be this excited.  It wasn’t too often that the gang was excited to this state, among the other “meat”, the gang seemed to me to be the calm within such situations.

“I see…” I dismissed the reaction and thought as fast as it had come

As I watched the others directing their attention to the scramblers, logic that is considered incomprehensible to humans has already been placed. Despite the nudging conflict, I see some grim similarity.

“Replay that. Slow it down” was the point that “meat” was already realizing that what they were trying to understand wasn’t bound to bear much fruit, I could’ve intervened, but leaving the group of “meat” to their own excitement was much more meaningful. If being in command was having any merits, battling with the conflict of flesh instincts and letting the other shaving some pride in their findings would do them some good. Being the one in command, one was to expect that all beings had some ego to assuage. Besides what was the point of letting on more than what a former race needed to know? It would serve no viable purpose, and “meat” that couldn’t fully understand the reason had no need to learn more. Knowing that saying anything would be a waste of time, I continue to silently watch.

“No let me.” James bulled into Cunningham’s headspace and yanked the slider to left.

Tick tick…tick…tickticktick…tick…tickticktick…

The sounds were nothing more than what were being heard. Logic of how slow “meat” was processing that seemed too inaudible. Another calculation and thought crosses my mind followed by the accompanying nudge within the mind. What the scramblers were and what findings that were discovered were too similar. The way the scramblers flail, it was slow and somewhat primitive like the former race. Although being different species, I assumed that if the roles were reversed, the same results would apply.

With a continued amount of amusement, being no more than a shadow, the archives of Theusus were pulled up for similar exchange within the last two days, both in duration from a tenth of the second to almost two. The same thought crossing my mind when the display was shown.. I feel that a more extreme approach should be taken, also considering that these scramblers served a purpose that could endanger “meat” that I’ve been assigned to protect, but I smile inside letting some of the feral savagery show in that smile. It’s interesting for them to determine a language from the sounds, before filling them in on what truly is the role of those captured scramblers. The most logical course would be to use enough force to make them respondent of a more refined use of language used by Rorschach.

Excerpt perspective of Jukka Sarasti Pg.258-259

I would say that this scene would have been played out in the similar manner I wrote above if Sarasti was listening in with the others. Sarasti, obviously being the commander and the vampire, would most likely come up with the logic within seconds that what the others seem to assume as communication wouldn’t be seen the same way. Also earlier and later on the novel Sarasti hints of the feral nature, and I figured it would supplement by adding brief detail of the conflicting thoughts that were going on in Sarasti’s mind. Not to mention that Sarasti has some small form of Sadism from watching the other’s emotions of excitement, frustration and pain as long as it didn’t affect their efficiency. In a angle, being a vampire has the benefits of understanding a good portion of the actual events that are to unfold for the crew members later, but still leaving room for useful findings by letting the crew members examine what Sarasti already assumes to know.

Since Vampire logic is also incomprehensible to normal humans, I assumed that Sarasti thought out this logic without hesitation and just a brief flash that crosses Sarasti’s mind when considering the actual truth. The nudging and display from Theusus attributes to the fact of Sarasti’s connection with the ship. More of a subtle foreshadowing of whom really in command, but Sarasti is being somewhat aware by the nudging of the mind. This sense of awareness can attribute to the fact of Sarasti’s nature of a vampire acting like an all-seeing eye among the crew emphasized in later sections of the novel. Lastly, instead of listing each individual by name, I made Sarasti address the group by “meat”, since Sarasti might recall an individual, the group as a whole would be considered “meat” unless each member was alone.
