What video games are your kids playing?

This interesting article by PBS discusses how most parents have no idea what video games their kids are playing. It addresses Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, the boys at the center of the Columbine Massacre, and the games they played prior to the shootings. It also includes interesting statistics and facts about video game ratings.

  1. This article is fairly dated (the source code for the file puts it at 2004), and also written from a perspective with a clear agenda. Which is not to say the author is incorrect, but that we should seriously consider the way she treats her evidence and the rhetorical strategies she uses to get her point across.

Ironically, the link the essay provides at the end (“gamesmart.org”) now leads to an online poker site.
