After a short discussion about the Atari logo at the end of class, I truly wondered why it was designed that way and where the name Atari came from. The logo was originally meant to represent not only the “A” from the Atari name, but also Atari’s first big hit, Pong. The curved edges represent two people playing the game, while the center line is the pong court. However, the logo later became representative of the Japanese roots of the Atari name by symbolizing Mount Fuji. In fact, it was often referred to simply as the “Fuji” logo. As for the origins of the company’s name, after multiple failed naming attempts, the word Atari, commonly used in the creator’s favorite game “Go,” came into favor.
